The Grand, Lachen

Lachen, North Sikkim
An affordable hotel, surrounded by lush green forest with majestic view of snow capped mountains in a quaint village.
The gorgeous view

As I updated you all in my last post that we left for Lachen on our third day of the trip. We left Rumtek around 9 am and headed to Lachen. The roads are horrendous and somewhere well maintained too. The drive from Rumtek to Lachen is very scenic and many waterfalls come on the way. We couldn’t take off our eyes from the mesmerizing landscapes. You will fall in love with the beauty that nature shows there. It started raining when we reached mid-way and suddenly weather became too cold but the rain made our journey more memorable. We stopped by there on the way to have maggie and a cup of coffee to beat the cold and cherish the moment. After tiring and beautiful drive, we finally reached Lachen around 6 pm in the evening.
Mesmerizing nature
Lachen is a village in North Sikkim where one needs to stay atleast one night if planning to visit Gurudongmar Lake. The village is very small with limited accessibility of everything and finding a good hotel with all facility there is a task. Lachen is full of home-stays as tourism is only source of income, all houses there are converted into home-stays . There are very few hotels where you can find good accommodation in an affordable price. We stayed at The Grand, Lachen.

OUR EXPERIENCE
I already mentioned above, we reached hotel in the evening, it became dark by that time and it was drizzling too. We reached hotel and found it too good as we were not expecting that kind of hotel in that small village.  We were greeted by the manager and he took us to our super deluxe suite. The suite was very spacious with attached sitting area and well equipped bathroom. We rested for an  hour , had some snacks and coffee. It was drizzling and too cold by that time, we wore three-four layers of clothes and left hotel to visit the village, also, we had to buy beanie because we forget them at home. We bought a beanie and came back to hotel, had sumptuous homely dinner in the suite only and went to sleep as we needed to get up very early in the morning. Since, Lachen is very cold place and temperature goes down to minus degrees in night, we have been provided with thick warm blankets too. We had a good sleep and we didn’t feel cold even in such minus temperature.
Soaking up the sun
Next day, we woke up early at 3 am in the morning and got ready to head to see Gurudongmar Lake. We had been given packed food items to have it in breakfast because it’s not feasible to cook so early. We were so excited to visit the Lake as you know in Gangtok also, we couldn’t visit any place because of snow. We left in that chilly morning and tiring body with a positive hope to finally visit the Gurudongmar lake. The roads are really bad but the scenic beauty is outstanding. We reached only 20 km away from Lachen, it started snowing and this was the only time I felt bad after seeing snow because my hope to visit the Lake got ruined. The road got closed and we returned back hopelessly, without any happiness, we stopped at some points and clicked some pictures. Reached hotel, we were in no mood to have food as our mood got spoiled, we packed and were about to leave the hotel. The manager and cook were so generous that they consoled us and immediately cooked food for us and requested to have it. We had delicious food and finally left.
